Washington, DC Baseball Uniforms From Shirt.Co: What is Sublimation?
We bank on sublimated logos and designs on our baseball uniforms that will never fade, peel, or crack on breathable, flexible, and moisture-wicking material. No matter the Washington, DC weather or environmental situations. Sublimation printing, also called “all over printing” as it allows you to utilize a design or logo that spans from seam to seam, uses heat to essentially bring fabric and ink together as one. To begin, your design or logo is printed on our special paper. The inks combine with the fabric, after being heated and turning into gas. The high temperature uncovers the pores of the fabric and then, with the applied weight, the ink cools and returns to a solid form. The sublimation process is akin to a tattoo, obviously substituting baseball jerseys for your skin.
This technique is perfect for our custom baseball uniforms in Washington, DC, which are lighter and more comfortable than some competitors’ jerseys, because the fabric stays smooth due to the printing melding with the fabric, contrary to feeling the dried, prickly ink on your skin on those competitors’ jerseys. There’s not much worse than standing out in the field with the sun grilling you amidst a Washington, DC summer scorcher, replete with a 113 heat index, only to feel the displeasure of your uniform numbers sticking to your skin. That’s humiliating, particularly due to the fact that baseball uniforms are costly. We can hope, for your sake, those inquisitive eyes in the front row didn’t see that.
You and your Washington, DC team, as well as your conspicuous, dedicated fan(s), justify far better. Contact us online or give us a call today at 636-926-2777 for a quote.
Washington, DC Baseball Uniforms: A Brief History
Oh, how far baseball uniforms have come. When they first started, back in 1849, baseball uniforms were made of wool pants, white flannel shirts, and straw hats. Sounds ideal for one of those Washington, DC hot summer days, eh? By 1882, uniforms were based on position rather than team. Every first baseman, for example, donned the same scarlet-and-white-striped shirt and bowtie, no matter which team they were on. This idea didn’t sit too well, surviving just a year before being referred to as clown costumes and being ditched.
In the late 1920s, numbers were sewn on the back of major league baseball uniforms. It took another couple of decades for numbers to be added to the front, too. Batting helmets weren’t introduced until 1939, but were not required for several decades. Wool caps and uniforms, or at least wool blends, were used until 2007. Along the way, there were many alterations and adaptations. The Chicago White Sox, at the instruction of quirky owner Bill Veeck, wore Bermuda shorts in 1976. The Philadelphia Phillies rocked zippers on their jerseys in 1979. And the list goes on. And on.
